An Escondido man is accused of molesting children during a five-year span in Riverside and San Diego counties, sheriff’s department officials said Sunday.
Richard Sears, 47, was arrested in his home and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley, on suspicion of committing felony sex crimes against multiple children, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. His home was searched as well.
Sears’ bail was set at $5 million.
Sheriff’s detectives from the Perris station began investigating the case Aug. 6, after they received information about multiple instances of child molestation that occurred in the unincorporated area of Perris and in Escondido between 1999 and 2004.
Investigators from both departments are asking for the public’s help in providing information related to the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Tom Salisbury at the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000 or Det. Jeff Udvarhelyl at the Escondido Police Department at (760) 802-7292.
