An 18-year-old Fergus Falls, Minnesota, man was arrested and charged with molesting a child under the age of 13 in Wilkin County in late July.
Mason Finamore made his initial appearance in Wilkin County District Court Tuesday, Aug. 18 where he was charged with one felony count of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under age 13, and older than age 3.
According to court records, Finamore is accused of sexual penetration with an 8-year-old female on or about the evening of July 21, 2015 near a Campbell, Minnesota, park. Two other children were witnesses to the assault.
After hearing a description of the alleged assailant, the child’s mother was able to obtain the defendant’s name and address, the criminal complaint states. The assault took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. The mother went to the defendant’s home and spoke to him, and he denied touching the child but stated he had been accused of sexual assaults before, the complaint states.
The alleged victim and two witnesses were interviewed by a Wilkin County Sheriff’s deputy, who responded to the report.
A Wilkin County social worker conducted a child forensic interview with the alleged victim about a week later, who referenced several times the defendant was going to kidnap her prior to allegedly assaulting her.
The maximum penalty for this charge is 30 years in prison, a $40,000 fine or both.
