Talmage Thompson Jr of Shelbyville Indiana Charged with Child Molesting

Talmage Thompson Jr-Shelbyville-Indiana-Shelby County

A Shelbyville man recently spent time behind bars in the Shelby County Jail after being arrested for child molesting.

According to court records and a probable cause affidavit filed in Shelby Superior Court I, Talmage Thompson Jr. was arrested on a Level I felony count of child molesting where the defendant is at least 21 years of age and a Level IV felony count of child molesting fondling or touching a child under age 14.

Between Oct. 1, 2014, and Dec. 24, 2014, Thompson allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct with a person under the age of 14. Also, during the same time, Thompson allegedly fondled and touched a person under the age of 14.

A Shelbyville Police Department report from April paints a picture of what happened.

Upon arrival, a Shelbyville police officer made contact with the victim’s father, who stated his friend, Thompson, had been at his house and played cards. The victim’s father stated a neighbor informed him one of his daughters said Thompson made her feel “uncomfortable” and that his wife learned from a daughter what Thompson did.

According to the report, the victim was interviewed by police and told police that every time Thompson stays at her house, he comes into her room and makes her “uncomfortable.”

The SPD made initial contact with Thompson on May 27, and he told officers he was “at work and driving.”

“It should be noted T.J. never asked who the victim is and if he is a suspect or witness,” the report said.

A few days later, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department took a report that Thompson was trying to harm himself.

In July, officers made contact with Thompson, who declined to talk unless his attorney, who he said was Mark McNeely, was present. Police found out that McNeely was not representing Thompson. Instead, police got a call from Bob Arnold, an attorney in Shelbyville, who said he was representing Thompson.

Thompson was arrested earlier this month.

According to court records, a $20,000 surety bond was posted, along with $3,005 cash bond for his release.

Court records show Thompson is to appear back in court in October and a jury trial is slated for January.
