The investigation against 34-year-old David J. Morris II started earlier this month after the girl spoke with an Evansville Police Department detective at Holly’s House on July 15.
During that interview, the now-13-year-old girl told investigators that Morris touched her inappropriately on at least three occasions, according to the probable cause affidavit against Morris. The first alleged incident was when the girl was 11 or 12 years old, police said.
The alleged victim has cerebral palsy, investigators wrote.
A woman, who is identified by police as the girl’s guardian, reportedly told investigators that Morris often asked if the girl could spend time overnight at his home. He also buys shoes and clothes for the girl, the woman said
Police wrote that officers located Morris on Wednesday. During an interview with investigators, Morris denied the allegations against him and reportedly said he loves the girl like a daughter, according to the affidavit.
He is preliminarily charged with child molesting, a felony. He is being initially held at the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond, awaiting an initial court appearance.
