William Dwight Massingil, 19, was arrested Tuesday by the Dalton Police Department.
Detectives in the police Criminal Investigation Department received a call from a family member of a minor on June 10 who told them of the possible child molestation, said Bruce Frazier, public relations specialist with the police department.
An incident report indicated that Massingil and the minor were talking as friends over the phone and on Facebook. The minor told officers the minor was touched by Massingil one day when they “were hanging out.”
The minor showed officers messages from Massingil on Facebook advising “to lie to the police and say that he did not know how old (the minor) really was,” according to the incident report.
Massingil was charged with child molestation, aggravated child molestation, furnishing obscene material to a minor, statutory rape, sodomy and enticing a child for indecent purposes.
