Edward Bowden, 61, was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography after officers seized computers, cameras and digital storage devices from his home. He may have even recorded child porn.
“At this time, the production portion is still under investigation, but he definitely has uploaded videos,” Schluer said. “I think he’s a very big danger to society.”
Detectives found Bowden using his IP address, after he uploaded a video of a little girl. The video-sharing site then flagged the video and alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“I’m shocked,” said neighbor George Myers, who lives at Union North Apartments. “As I’m sure most of the residents here are … This is a real family-oriented complex. There’s a lot of kids so that really bothers me.”
Bowden was taken into custody Wednesday at his home in the 300 block of North Union Road.
The ages of the children seen in photos and videos found by officers ranged from infants to teens, according to Manteca police.
“I don’t have any grandkids yet, but my nieces and nephews visit all the time,” said Gina Gorrebeek, another neighbor. “Oh my gosh, that makes me sick to my stomach.”
Bowden was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on $275,000 bail.
