A worker at a Pleasanton preschool has been arrested for allegedly engaging in lewd acts with a teenage girl, authorities said Monday.
Alexander Kurtz, 22, of Castro Valley, who worked at Building Kidz Preschool, was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of abusing the girl last year.
Alameda County prosecutors have charged Kurtz with engaging in a forcible lewd act upon a child.
The alleged victim was a former student at the facility at 4300 Mirador Drive when it was known as Busy Bees Preschool, police said. No current students are believed to be involved in the case, and the school has terminated Kurtz’s employment, police said.
The girl, identified in court records only as Jane Doe, told police that in December she was climbing under a play structure when Kurtz, her after-school teacher, followed her there, authorities said.
“Doe felt uncomfortable around Kurtz and tried to climb out of the play structure,” a police investigator wrote in a court affidavit. “Kurtz grabbed Doe’s leg and roughly pulled her back into the structure” before touching her inappropriately, police said.
The girl’s mother confronted Kurtz while wearing a police recording device, and Kurtz “made several admissions” about what occurred, police said. Kurtz told police that he may have touched her “accidentally,” the affidavit says.
