Less than two months after being released from prison, a Utica man was arrested on allegations of child molesting.
Daniel W. Crone was arrested and booked into the Clark County jail about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. The Jeffersonville Police Department is continuing its investigation.
The arrest and anticipated criminal charge stems from a woman reporting to police that an 11-year-old girl had told her that she had been molested “on top of her clothes” by Crone, police reported.
According to the Indiana Department of Correction website, Crone was imprisoned for nearly two years after a burglary conviction in Clark County.
During a police interview Wednesday, Crone admitted to fondling the child in the Jeffersonville home, but that the act was not sexual.
“Crone denied any sexual contact with [the girl] while in Utica,” according to the report.
Crone has been preliminarily charged with level 4 felony child molesting, a crime punishable up to 12 years in prison. An initial hearing is expected in Clark County in the coming days.
