A sixth-grade teacher at Orange Elementary in Corona was arrested Friday, Feb. 27, on suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 — a female student at the school, Corona police said.
Shane Alan Kent, 55, of Corona, has been placed on administrative leave by the Corona-Norco Unified School District, a police news release said.
On Thursday, the school district administration told police of an accusation that a teacher inappropriately touched a student, the release said. Kent was arrested after police consulted the Riverside County District Attorney Office.
Kent’s name was not listed in the jail log or Superior Court records as of Friday afternoon.
The district hired Kent on July 2, 2002, district spokeswoman Evita Tapia-Gonzalez wrote in an email.
Parents of Orange Elementary students were notified of the accusations against a teacher by email, Tapia-Gonzalez said. Due to confidentiality, a name was not included in the notice.
The district issued a written statement Friday afternoon that it is cooperating with police and that the safety of students is highly important. The district promptly investigates reports of misconduct by students and employees, the statement said.
Detectives believe there might be other victims, the release said. They are asking for parents of students who attend or attended Orange Elementary to speak to their children about any inappropriate contact they may have had with Kent or any inappropriate behavior they may have witnessed.
