A Portsmouth man has been charged with the rape of a five-year-old child.
Lawrence William Taylor, 46, has been charged with one count of rape, a felony of the first degree and his bond has been set at $100,000. In addition, he is being held without bond on a parole violation.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a call on Saturday, March 14, from Southern Ohio Medical Center stating that they had a five-year-old sexual assault victim that was being transported to Children’s hospital in Columbus. Information was gathered and forwarded to a detective for an investigation.
Donini said during the investigation detectives were able to get copies of medical records along with suspect information. Detectives determined that the suspect was on parole and with the help of the Adult parole officers, they were able to locate the suspect where he was detained and brought in for questioning on Tuesday. Taylor was subsequently arrested.
He is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court Wednesday. Donini said more charges could be presented to the Scioto County grand jury at a later date.
Donini said anyone with any information concerning the case should contact detective Jodi Conkel at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.
