A former Arizona teacher has been arrested after being accused of inappropriately touching children.
According to the police report, 54-year-old Jose Ruben Mada allegedly molested a young girl on at least seven occasions between 1995 and 1997.
The girl reported to police that Mada would lay in bed with her and touch her, sometimes kiss her, and at other times he would stand over her and tell her not to tell anyone, the report says. She was between 12 and 14 at the time, the report says.
Mada was arrested Tuesday at his home near 20th Street and Indian School Road. He faces one count of child molestation and two counts of sexual abuse.
Police said in the report that detectives tried to interview Mada on several occasions, but he avoided them. He then, according to the report, sent the victim a letter apologizing for his actions.
On Feb. 24, police said the victim confronted Mada and again asked him why he touched her. According to the report, Mada “told her he didn’t know why and he couldn’t explain it.”
Mada has been a teacher and a teacher’s aid for 26 years, police said. He is currently working in an arts and crafts after-school program with children between the ages of six to 12 years old, according to the report.
Police said there have been other reports that Mada would touch students on their legs and stomachs and would kiss them on their forehead.
According to the report, Mada admitted to police his involvement in the alleged crime and said he’s been sexually attracted to children “for many years.”
