Dwayne Ward, 40, faces a charge of child molesting after a 9-year-old girl told police he showed her pornographic videos and touched her inappropriately.
A 40-year-old Elkhart man faces child molesting charges after he was accused of touching a 9-year-old girl inappropriately.
The victim told Elkhart police that she and a younger sibling were left in the care of Dwayne Ward one night in the fall of 2014 while a parent went to work, according to court documents.
Ward told the victim to sit on his lap and he reclined the chair, covered both of them with a blanket and watched pornographic videos on a laptop while he touched her genitals, she told police.
Ward told the victim the police would come arrest him if she told anyone about the incident, the court documents state.
She later reported the incident to the other parent.
Ward was arrested Feb. 11 on a charge of child molesting and booked at the Elkhart County Jail. He was released Feb. 18 on $10,000 surety bond, according to electronic court records.
His trial was set for June 29. If convicted, he could face as many as 12 years in prison under Indiana sentencing guidelines.
Ward’s next hearing is scheduled for March 5.
