A Quaddick Road man charged last month with molesting several boys while he was a Boy Scout leader allegedly molested two of them in a shower on the Nichols College campus in Dudley, Mass., according to arrest warrant affidavits.
David Kress, 52, was arrested Oct. 23 and released on $100,000 bond. He is due Nov. 26 in Danielson Superior Court, The Bulletin of Norwich, Connecticut, reported.
The arrest warrant affidavit, written by Connecticut State Police Detective Daniel Bavosi, states that “Victim 1” told him Mr. Kress molested him dozens of times, including in “the showers” at Nichols College, where Mr. Kress worked.
Mr. Kress was employed by a private firm that provides security services for Nichols College, according to a statement from the college released Tuesday afternoon. In the same statement, the college stated that it has been made aware of “an alleged incident that may have occurred on campus property during the late 1980s.” The college said that the information has been referred to Dudley police for further investigation.
In the affidavits, another victim stated that on one occasion, when he was about 15 years old, the Scouts were on a trip to the college and Mr. Kress was having sex with him when another Scout leader walked into the showers. The victim stated he was relieved it was over, and said Mr. Kress told the other Scout leader he was checking the boy for bruises. The other leader walked away and never said anything, according to the victim’s account in the affidavit.
The fellow Scout leader was later contacted by Detective Bavosi and told him he did not witness Mr. Kress having sex with the victim, according to the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, a co-worker of Mr. Kress at Nichols in March told Detective Bavosi that Mr. Kress called him March 8 and told him the reason he had been missing so many shifts was because “he was abused as a child and he told (the co-worker) that he was also an abuser of children.”
The co-worker told Detective Bavosi that initially Mr. Kress said there were 12 victims, but later recanted and admitted to only six victims, according to the affidavit.
The Bulletin reported that Boy Scouts officials from the Connecticut River Council branch said Mr. Kress, who allegedly molested the boys between 1989 and 1999, was relieved of his volunteer duties with the organization earlier this year, once the allegations were brought forward.
Mr. Kress allegedly furnished the boys regularly with alcohol and pornography. According to the affidavit, when interviewed by Detective Bavosi in March, Mr. Kress quickly said “he knew where I was going with this” and later expressed suicidal thoughts.
“I asked him who the last child was,” Detective Bavosi said. “He said the first child to accuse him was the last child he touched.”
Later in the interview Mr. Kress admitted to touching another victim and “did not disagree with the allegations made by Victim 1,” according to the affidavit.
After the interview, Mr. Kress was taken to Day Kimball Hospital for an emergency committal for threats of harming himself, according to the affidavit.
