A North Kingstown man was arrested Monday after being accused of molesting a little girl during the Newport International Polo event this summer.
Brian Smith, 52, is charged with 2nd-degree child molestation and simple assault after an investigation into an incident on July 19 at the Garner Seveney Complex.
Two 10-year-old children told police that a man started talking to them, and then touched them, including reaching under one girl’s skirt, according to a news release from Portsmouth police.
An investigation led to Smith, who was arrested in Lynnfield, Mass., and held as a fugitive from justice. The Peabody District Court released Smith on $10,000 cash bail on Monday to face the charges in District Court, Newport. He was arraigned and posted $30,000 surety bail, according to police.
