An Elko, Nevada man accused of molesting two boys was arrested Tuesday evening in Reno.
Devon Hockemier, 21, is a suspect in a sexual assault case investigated by the Elko Police Department. He is charged with seven counts of sexual assault with a child under 14, seven counts of lewdness with a child under 14, and seven counts of open or gross lewdness, according to the criminal complaint filed by the district attorney’s office.
Elko Police Lt. Richard Genseal said detectives first learned about the case in November 2013 when the parents of a 7 year old reported suspicious activity between their child and a 10-year-old boy.
When detectives interviewed the 10 year old, he claimed he was molested by Hockemier, Genseal said. As the investigation continued, a second victim — a 13-year-old boy — reportedly came forward and also said Hockemier molested him.
Genseal said the forensic evidence detectives found supported both victims’ stories. The abuse went on for several years, he said. Hockemier is not related to either victim.
Detectives found Hockemier and interviewed him. Genseal said he confessed to the crimes during the police interview. Police continued to build their case against Hockemier and submitted the case to the district attorney’s office in January.
“The work that went into it by my detectives was absolutely astounding,” Genseal said about the case.
The court issued a warrant for Hockemier’s arrest on May 1. He was arrested Tuesday evening in Reno by the U.S. Marshal Northern Nevada’s Fugitive Taskforce, with assistance from Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks Police Department and Department of Public Safety Parole and Probation.
“This is yet another demonstration of our commitment to protecting the children of our community from wanted sex offenders,” said District of Nevada U.S. Marshal Christopher Hoye in a press release. “We will continue to aggressively pursue and arrest these fugitives in order to bring them to justice.”
Hockemier was arrested without incident. His bail was listed at $3.5 million. He was booked into Washoe County Jail to await transport to Elko County Jail.
